For the better part of Monday, residents of Nyabigege in South Mugirango, barricaded Kisii-Migiri Highway over rising insecurity.
A fortnight ago, two security guards were brutally murdered at Nyabiegege market in what was a culmination of a series of robbery with violence in the region.
Led by area MCA Daniel Apepo, the demonstrators accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i of doing little to improve the situation in his backyard.
"The police in Nyachenge AP post should be transferred with immediate effect because they have failed to improve the situation," Apepo said.
He added: "Our Interior minister should also wake up. It beats logic that his own home can be under siege. We want to see actions."
In a quick rejoinder, Gucha South Deputy County Commissioner Mr. James Wambua assured residents of detailed investigations over the controversial murders.
"The police jacket that was found at the scene will help us with investigations. Suspects will be punished in accordance to the law," he said.
