Residents of Bonyunyu in Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira County on Wednesday held demonstrations opposing the construction of the multibillion Bonyunyu Dam in the area.
According to residents, the government plans to evict them without compensation and they won’t allow the construction to take place because they are legal owners of the land where the dam will be constructed.
The locals asked Water Cs Eugene Wamalwa to intervene and ensure the government relocates the dam to a different area.
“We don’t need water and we are not ready to move from our homes just because of the construction of the dam.
"The government should consider constructing the dam at a different area because we will not allow the dam be constructed on our lands that we inherited from our grandfathers," a resident spoke to the reporter in confidence.
