Governor Jack Ranguma has proposed that there is need to manage future demonstrations in Kisumu to ensure they are not infiltrated by people ill motives.
Mr Ranguma said the recent destruction witnessed during demonstrations is denting the image of the county.
He said some individuals with criminal intent have taken over the demonstrations with the aim of looting and destroying property.
“We must do things right next time, these people coming to loot in the guise of demonstrating must be kicked out,” he said.
Ranguma said he has received concerns from the business community and investors that there is need to protect their investments.
He noted that should there be any future demonstration then it must be planned well and police adequately briefed.
“It is good to tell the police when we are staging the demonstration and how long and the point of departure,” he said.
Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday in a meeting attended by several stakeholders from different sectors in Kisumu, Ranguma also took a swipe at the conduct of the police.
He accused the police of being too brutal.
“The police must know that the police force was hanged with police service under the new constitution. They should not use force to disperse peaceful crowd,” he said.
Ranguma proposed that there is need to retrain police officers and equip them with knowledge on how to handle the public during demonstrations.
