Deputy president William Ruto has challenged security agencies in the country to provide sufficient security to elderly persons in the country
Ruto said there are some people who allege that elderly people are witches in various societies and there is a need for them get proper security.
Speaking on Thursday in Gusii stadium Kisii town during the celebration of the International Day of Elderly Persons, Ruto urged security agencies in the county from the county commissioners to location chiefs to provide security to the senior citizens.
“The government is there to take care of every individual and we have to take a responsibility as security agencies to provide security to every Kenyan," said Ruto.
“Some people allege that elderly people are witches in various societies but it is God who has provided them with good age over 60 years and we need to take care of them let security agencies take care of them," he added.
Ruto added that in Kisii and Nyamira counties 31,700 elderly people benefits from government project cash transfer money (Inua Jamii) which they get every month Sh2,000 those with 65 years and above but are vulnerable and he challenged them to use the money wisely to improve their living standards,” he insisted.
