The government has raised concerns over the high volumes of products that are being imported into the country compared to the exports.

According to the State Department of Trade Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, imports in the country are three times more that what is exported.

Speaking in Eldoret on Saturday, the PS, however, revealed that the government is already working on a strategy that aims to improve the number of exports.

"By the end of this year we hope that the strategy shall be complete and in January we shall roll it out," Dr. Kiptoo said.

He pointed out that the ministry will work closely with devolved units and see it that there's value addition to all products being exported.

"As much as we want to export more, we are also keen to ensure we add value to our products so that we benefit more and this is why we're going to pull resources together with counties to establish an infrastructure that will facilitate value addition," noted the Trade PS.

"Exporting more creates not only opportunities for the Small Scale Enterprises (SME's) but also job opportunities for our youths," he added.
