Transport Principal Secretary John Mosonik has said President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has funded road projects in the Coast region to the tune of Sh100 billion since 2013.
Speaking when he inspected construction of a road linking Changamwe Port Reitz and Moi International Airport, Mosonik said the national government has been working in collaboration with other development partners from different parts of the world to ensure that the road network in the region is improved.
The PS revealed that the government has embarked on the upgrading of the Taveta-Mwatate road, which residents have been complaining about for a long time.
He noted that the Moi Airport-Changamwe Port Reitz Road project cost Sh5.2 billion with Sh 2.7 billion allocated towards the construction of the road and Sh2.5 billion set aside for compensation purposes.
The PS assured residents that all the projects started by the Jubilee government will be completed before the end of their term.
“The contract completion date is January 2018. However, the contractor is expected to complete the works ahead of schedule and has projected the completion date to be March 2017,” said Mosonik, as quoted by The Star.
This comes after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to point out some of the projects he had initiated in the region.
