Education Principal Secretary, Belio Kipsang, said that the education ministry has directed all school heads not to send back home any students who fail to come with school fees.

Speaking on Sunday when he graced the yearly prayer day at the Nakuru high school, Kipsang said that every Kenyan child has a right to education, and it was wrong for School heads to send any child out of school with the excuse of failing to pay fees.

“The constitution of Kenya guarantees every child the right to basic education, whether the child has school fees or not and no student should stay out of school just because he/she cannot afford school fees. The directive has been issued to all secondary schools and parents should report any cases where students will be sent back home to collect fees,” said Kipsang.

Nakuru County Education Executive Catherine Kitetu called on the education ministry to allow students joining form one to be admitted even without schools fees, saying that some parents were not in a position to pay the high amount being charged by some schools.

“I do not see the reason as to why a student should lose a slot in a school just because he/she cannot afford to pay the amount being asked on admission. The schools should allow students to be admitted as parents look for the money,” said Kitetu.
