A section of Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators from the expansive North Rift Region have threatened to sue the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) for banning night travel without consulting them.

On Tuesday, the Manager of North Rift Shuttle Nakuru Branch, James Munene speaking to the Daily Nation said that they are still preparing to file a court suit against the NTSA by the end of the week.

They said that the night travel ban is affecting their operations yet they were not consulted.

“We are organizing ourselves to go to court because such decisions cannot and should not be one sided. This is the time we collect enough money to renew our licenses and pay insurances which we must have in order to operate on the roads,” Munene said as quoted by The Daily Nation.

Munene said that close to 500 of their customers were forced to spend the night in the cold when NTSA issued a notice against the night travel thus jeopardizing their operations.

“Our passengers travelling from Malaba to Nairobi and other places that require a minimum of 7 hours travel were forced to spend their night on the road because the directive was issued after they had begun their journey,” he added.

The PSV operators have called on the government to deal with individual drivers and SACCOS than ‘punishing’ the entire Matatu sector.
