A video showing four teachers, three men and one woman, canning students in a staff room in Kaveye girls high school in Vihiga has gone viral.
The video has angered many Kenyans and it has woken up the never-ending discussion about the best way to punish a student who has gone astray.
Education cabinet secretary has even ordered that the said teachers should be investigated and charged accordingly, terming the act a form of brutality.
I think the best way to correct a student who has gone astray is to execute psychological punishment. What does this mean?
The students should be made to learn from their mistakes by allowing them to think over what they have done. The teacher can offer corrective punishment like ordering the student to write an apology letter, or a composition, or to call the parent for a discussion.
There are so many ways of playing with the psychology of a student to make him or her feel guilty! It will go along way in shaping a student's behaviour.
