As a precautionary measure, Director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko urged members of the public to avoid contact with affected persons.

“It happens a lot during holidays and we always pick up the cases through enhanced awareness among the public. The disease is more prevalent in dry and overcrowded places and, therefore, we are advising people to improve their hygiene level and limit contact with those who are infected,” said Kioko.

According to the MOH disease surveillance,Mombasa county has had the disease since January with 500 cases reported.

However, the number increased to 1,200 in September with a majority of the victims being children.

In Nairobi, there are no official data on the disease.

“We are still waiting for information from Nairobi County. They have just been promising but are yet to deliver,” claimed a source from the Disease Surveillance.
