The reported improved security in Athi River Sub County is due to cooperation from the public and political goodwill among leaders in the region.

This was disclosed by the region's district administration police commander, Stephen Matu who praised the leaders for supporting security agents to ensure they met their objectives of ensuring there was law and order.

"The joint police forces the regular, administration and other units have enjoyed political goodwill from local political leadership hence the reported improved security," said Matu.

Speaking from his Athi River offices on Tuesday, Matu said there had never been any report on security operations interference by politicians.

He revealed that politicians from the region traded within their boundaries as majority of them seemed to be knowing their constitutional mandates thereby not trespassing or interfering with operations of security personnel.

The commandant gave an example of the ongoing crackdown on illicit liquor and brewers in the country that has seen many politicians mobilize gangs to raid dens and destroy property.

Athi River Township MCA, Michael Mutua, confirmed the commandant's view saying he has not heard of any politician interfering with operations of security agents.

Mutua said that all the politicians from the region knew their constitutional roles that include people's representation, legislation and oversight to county government roles.

He said that any politician from the region who would attempt to frustrate the officers’ operations would equally be dealt with both legally and politically.
