All public officers serving within Mavoko Sub County in Machakos County have been urged to cooperate with the press.
The call came from the sub county's deputy county commissioner, Makori Kodeck, who said journalists are empowered by the constitution to access information from all sources as far as it is of public interest.
Addressing Journalist in his office on Monday Kodeck said that some officers are not cooperating with journalists hence making it hard for their Sub County to be covered in various media station.
"All public officers in this region must learn to be media friendly and give relevant information needed by journalists to make their work easier in a bid of having informed society," said Kodeck.
According to the county commissioner, most of the public officers in Mavoko were ignorant on the role of media.
Kodeck said he is aware that different offices had different policies and limitations on how information should be disseminated and treated but noted that journalists had rights to be provided with information whenever they needed it.
Kodeck however urged journalists from the region to cooperate with the officers, become friendly, develop trust with their sources and abide by all legislations that regulate the media industry.
At the same time, he assured of improved security this year.
