The government will be providing free Wi-Fi to all public primary schools as a way of ensuring easy access to learning materials.

Speaking during the launch of distribution of books to schools today, Friday, ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru revealed the steps his ministry had in conjunction with the ministry of education done to improve learning.

“First of all with KICD, we now have a cloud which is an educational cloud where we have put in the content, all the books that have been there from standard 1-3, and that will continue to happen as the curriculum is being reformed,”

“We are proving connectivity, all public primary school are given free Wi-Fi and broadband connectivity by Safaricom that’s already in process,

Mucheru further revealed that they are working with different stakeholders including the Communication Authority and the Posta, in ensuring they achieve their targets.

“Secondly through the universal service fund with the Communications Authority, we are now digitizing the secondary school content and were doing about 1,000 schools every year,”

“We are also looking at the foundation that we put in through DLP that we began to see in the manufacturing of the devices in the country, and we will expand so that all the students will access books digitally,”
