Members of the public came to the rescue of a Mpesa agent on Friday after she was attacked by armed gangsters. The two gangsters whose identities are yet to be disclosed attacked the shop during at night before they were repulsed by the Wananchi.According to a resident, Janet Adhiambo, the armed men stormed the shop of the agent when she was closing and all of a sudden lights went off as they planned how to loot cash from the place. She also said that the residents were concerned over the response of the attackers immediately the lights went.“We wonder why the two attacked the woman immediately after the electricity went off, it is as if they knew there would be a blackout,’ she said, as quoted by Star.The two thugs are said to have shot twice in the air before they disappeared after the botched robbery incident.The attempted robbery comes at a time when Mpesa agents have been lamenting over their security. The incidents of robbery in the area have seen Mpesa owners and other businesspersons lose millions on a monthly basis amid efforts of the national and county government to ensure maximum security if granted to the residents.
