A public school in Gilgil constituency has been the talk of the community after it emerged that it has a shortage of toilet facilities, a situation that has forced pupils to relieve themselves in the bushes.
Kiungururia Primary School headteacher Daniel Kiplagat notes that the over 500-pupil school has only two toilet blocks that are shared with a neighbouring secondary school.
The situation has been termed a health hazard by teachers and parents who expressed fear of a possible outbreak of diseases.
The headteacher said that although the county and national governments were supporting the school financially, more was still needed in bid to offer a better and quality learning environment.
According to Kiplagat, the school classrooms are similarly in a bad state ranging from leaking roofs, dilapidated desks and earthen floors.
“Water is scarce in this area and our classrooms must be watered due to dust. Our pupils are suffering much and we hope well wishers may help check the situation,” said Kiplagat.
The teacher called on the government and community to step in and manage the situation.
