The Kisumu County government has begun the construction of new Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in all public schools, Governor Jack Ranguma has said.
Speaking during the marking of the International Human Rights Day in Kisumu, Ranguma said most existing ECD centres are in pathetic conditions within the county, hence the need to build new ones.
“We want to give all our children in the county the best possible start to their education,” the governor said.
Ranguma also announced plans to employ more ECD trained teachers to teachers to serve in the newly constructed centres.
“The new ECD centres will not only increase enrollment in public nursery schools but will also provide employment for our people,” Ranguma said.
At the same time, the governor said the county had already embarked on renovating, equipping and staffing all the existing public hospitals, health centres and dispensaries in the county to ensure provision of quality and affordable healthcare to all Kisumu residents.
