All headteachers in Kisii have been told to apply for school title deeds before March 23, 2015.
Kisii County Lands Management Board chairman Ombasa Omweno said this is in line with National Lands Commission (NLC) directives.
“I am urging all headteachers and principals of public schools to ensure that they get land title deeds before March 23, 2015 as directed by the government through the Ministry of Lands,” said Omweno.
He added that the issue of land grabbing has been rampant and it needs to be dealt with.
Omwena further urged Kisii residents to visit the Land Management offices in case they have questions on land issues.
Calls for school bosses to have title deeds started after a protest at Langata primary school to have a grabbed playing field returned to the school. The senior lands officials acted fast after police appeared to teargas protesting schoolchildren.
