Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has warned top county leaders joining them to demystify the notion that public service is a place for minting quick money.

Addressing  County executives and Chief operation officers on Monday during a breakfast meeting Ongwae said that some  people were opting to quit their lucrative jobs elsewhere to serve at the county government because word has it that public service is where one makes quick riches through dubious means.

“I send this warning to all the county employees that those found culpable of financial malpractice will be sacked and handed over to the relevant authorities for prosecution as my administration shall not tolerate this,” said Ongwae.

He called on his newly appointed chief officers to dismiss any dubious financial claims and procurements that are aimed at squandering government resources.

“As accounting officers, feel free to cancel all those procurement processes if they do not give value for our money. If you know you can get goods and services cheaper elsewhere then it is better rather than committing government into unnecessary expensive deals,” said Ongwae

He asked the new chief officers to adhere to the spirit of change noting that each of the departments had a fair share of its own challenges.
