Machakos County Government has been urged to exercise accountability in resources allocation.
Speaking during a public forum at Mwanyani Catholic Church, Programme Officer Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education Christine Kalikanda said the resources allocated in the county should be used to help each and every area of the county.
Kalakinda asserted that the main aim of devolution was to bring services closer to the people at grassroots.
“The county government should make sure that residents are benefiting from the resources allocated to them by the State,” said Kalakinda.
She further urged the county government to involve residents in development activities.
“The constitution requires the county administration to engage people in the decision making process,” noted Kalakinda.
Currently county governments are supposed to involve public in budget making among other things.
The civic education officer told members of the public to be active in the issues going on in their government so that they can be served appropriately.
“You need to keep your government on toes by asking questions where necessary. This is the only way to get development at your place,” said Kalakinda.
The official said they will carry out civic education to enlighten the public on matters of devolution and accountability.
She added that the knowledge will help the public to understand the wider concept of devolution.
