The County Administration Police commander Joseph Keitany said in most cases police have failed to respond to public cries due to lack of fuel.

“We have heard that police officers fail to arrive at a crime scene due to lack of fuel for the police vehicles,’ he said.

Keitany said sometimes the public give out cash to the police to purchase fuel for quick response.

He warned that the national government has adequately funded the national police service and nobody should fall prey to any officer demanding fuel.

“We have every support from the government to be able to fight crime in this county. Please I beseech you, don’t part with cash for fuel to a police vehicles,” he said.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday, Keitany urged the public to report such charterers in case they make the demands.

He promised the public that any information advance to them will be treated with the secrecy it deserves.

“Those days are gone when a criminal is reported and the officers receiving the information leak out the information of who has reported,” he said.

Keitany further announced that they have managed to contain the crime wave in the lakeside city.

He noted that they are in collaboration with police officers in the neighbouring counties to be able to flush out criminals.
