Kenyans out to buy land in Ruiru and Thika districts have been cautioned to be careful when entering land buying deals following escalating cases of fraudulent transactions in the area.
Speaking in Thika Town during the district integrity committee meeting on Monday, the Thika land registrar Christopher Gichuki revealed that speculation buying as a result of the Thika superhighway has thrown the area into a booming land selling business.
“Some unscrupulous land merchants making a kill out of fake deals. Out of every 10 cases in Thika Courts, four are land related with unsuspecting prospective land buyers being conned out of their money,” he said.
Gichuki pointed out that the worst hit was Ruiru and Juja areas where cases of double allocation and fake title deeds were the order of the day.
He attributed the upsurge to some corrupt officers in the ministry who collude with fraudulent brokers to manufacture fake documents in the Nairobi backstreet.
Thika OCPD Paul Leting revealed that two Thika based traffic officers were interdicted last month and several others were under investigation following allegations of corruption in the course.
“Citizens should exercise caution while purchasing land, we have a lot of pending cases of the same; help us protect you by engaging with the only authorised land sellers,” concluded Leting.
