Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi is advocating for the publication of names of uncollected national identity cards as the second week of the voter registration exercise draws towards the end.
Speaking on behalf of the party leader, ANC Secretary General Godfrey Osotsi said that publication of these names will make it easy for the owners to collect them before the end of the mass voter registration exercise.
This comes after the Interior Ministry confirmed that about nine million ID cards are yet to be collected from various distribution centers despite recent calls for owners to pick them.
Chiefs have been tasked to ensure uncollected ID cards get to the owners.
ANC leaders believe that collection of IDs will change the number of registered voters.
“It can help boost the numbers in the ongoing mass voter registration. It will give them an opportunity to elect their leaders come August 8,” said, as quoted by the Star.
In the meantime, ANC has extended the dateline for its aspirants to submit applications as well as nomination forms to 10th of February to avoid locking out eligible leaders.
