As President Uhuru Kenyatta works to ensure that the country moves out of the ICC, nominated MP, Oburu Odinga has opposed the president’s stand.
According to Oburu, this will return the nation to its dark days.
‘‘This move is not good at all. It will only support impunity in the country. The president is somehow imposing the dictatorial type of ruling. What he means is that poor citizens will continue suffering without having any saviour. Our leaders are using Africa to carry out their evil deeds,’’ said Oburu.
His sentiments have been echoed strongly by Kibera residents who have called on the president not to push for the said motion.
‘‘If the president won the cases at The Hague, it means he and other people who had been accused in the cases were innocent. They are now off the hook. If other African leaders will join the move then Africa will go back to the dark days, the days were dictators ruled. There will be no punishment for leaders who commit crimes against humanity. Africa will not develop if at all this will happen,’’ Jessica Alemba said, a resident of Kibera.
