Fuel customers will now have to embrace higher retailed pump prices of petroleum products which took force from May 15 to June 14, 2016.
In an online public statement by ERC dated 14 May 2016, fuel prices have risen, meaning super petrol increased by sh3.54 per litre, diesel increased by sh4.14 per litre while kerosene increased by sh3.02 per litre.
In Garissa County, the price adjustments mean that petrol will retail at sh88.82 per litre while diesel and kerosene will cost sh74.94 and sh51.55 per litre, respectively. However, ERC attributes the continued rise to the surge in the price of crude oil in the international market which has been rising from a low of US$29 per barrel early this year, to the current price of US$47 per barrel.
In general, ERC noted that surge in the price of crude oil in the international market led to an increase in the cost of refined products from late January 2016 for diesel and kerosene and mid-February 2016 for super petrol.
