Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadihas asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take stern action against President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy over what he said was “breaching the Electoral Code of Conduct”.
In a telephone interview, Mudavadi argued that using State officials such as Cabinet Secretaries at Jubilee campaigns was a breach of the laid down Electoral Code of Conduct and that quick action should be taken against the two.
However, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has “clarified” that the law did not stop any Cabinet Secretary from campaigning.
He said the law only criminalises such conduct from principal secretaries, who are the State's accounting officers in ministries.
Mudavadi accused the IEBC for suspiciously condoning misuse of State resources by Jubilee and running adverts disguised as Government accountability.
“What has Water CS Eugene Wamalwa got to do with the issuance of title deeds? What is the IEBC waiting for? This is unacceptable,” said Mudavadi.
