Mvita Constituency youth leader Mohammed Hussein has raised the red flag over the number of young children begging for relief from tourists and other locals in Mombasa.
Hussein appealed to the authorities to punish parents who allow their children to walk on Mombasa streets to beg for money and food from locals.
Hussein famously known as Amadoh said that such poor parenting behaviors were putting children at high risk of being sexually molested.
“I am seeing the number of children begging for relief on the streets increasing every day, we need immediate interventions or else these children will perish,” said Amadoh.
Amadoh who was addressing parents, teachers, youth and children at Darul Hikma nursery school at Mjambere ward in Kisauni after he presided over graduation ceremony of the young children on Friday, said that only parents in the area were exposing their children to danger.
“Why should you parents give your children as young as five years old to sell groundnuts at Kengeleni area along the Mombasa -Malindi highway? Please desist and protect these angels” he told the parents.
The vocal youth leader said that it was time for parents to keep vigilant especially during the long holidays where children were at home.
He said that most of the children may be exposed to drugs and irresponsible sexual behavior which will shun their dreams in life.
He appealed to parents to ensure that they closely monitor their children since they are vulnerable to vices.
He appealed to the county children’s department, the security agents and gender and children’s rights activists in the county to swing into action this long holiday so as to protect the young ones.
