Women Representative Rose Nyamunga has urged parents in the county to ensure that their children go to school for a brighter future.
Ms Nyamunga has a number of children in the county are not attending school due to negligence by parents.
"Those parents who keep children at home are doing an injustice to this country. As a country we want a better future for our children, and when we keep them out of school, it is really unfair because we wont progress," said Nyamunga.
Nyamunga who was speaking in Kisumu on Saturday during the issuance of bursaries to needy students said it is unfortunate that many children still remain at home despite free primary education in place.
"Nowadays education is free, we have school feeding programmes going on, then one would wonder why some parents keep children at home," said Nyamunga.
Nyamunga urged the government to ensure that those parents keeping children from school are punished.
"Education is the key to a successful life in future, all of us want that for our children," added Nyamunga.
During the exercise at the Kisumu Social Center on Saturday, more than 600 students were issued with tuition cheques.
The bursary was sponsored by Nyamunga's office.
"I urge all the beneficiaries of the cheques to work hard and stay in school for a better tomorrow," said Nyamunga.
