Kisii University vice-chancellor John Akama has called on the government to arrest and prosecute parents who fail to take their children to school.
Akama stated that the government is offering free day secondary and primary education and no parent or guardian should have an excuse for condoning children to stay at home.
“The government has invested more in the education sector by offering free primary and secondary education. Parents who fail on their responsibilities should be arrested and prosecuted,” said Akama.
He noted that it is true education that future leaders will be found.
"We will have no future leaders if our children will not be taken to school. A society with education is better than a society full of illiterate people. We want young people to go to school to be good future leaders in our country,” he added.
Akama eulogized Professor Tumbo Oeri as a person who fought to ensure education standards in the country has improved.
“Oeri fought a good fight to improve education standards in the country. We want more people like him in the society and not criminals,” said Akama.
Akama was speaking on Friday at Mosocho area in Kitutu Chache South during the burial of Professor Tumbo Oeri.
