Judy Kwamboka Ogeto's medical condition requires concerted efforts of an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist, a plastic surgeon, and an oncologist.

And with the ongoing doctors' strike, things could not be worse for the poor girl.

According to her brother Denis Ogeto, the Standard Seven pupil was okay in school until October 15 last year when she started nose bleeding while sitting an exam.

He said a day after the nose bleeding, a pimple appeared in her nose and soon it overgrew, blocking both noses and also affecting her right eye.

When this writer visited Kwamboka at her parents’ home in Ibaara village, Nyamira County, she was writhing in pain and had a severe headache.

Her mother, Nyaboke, and a neighbour, were dabbing her head with a wet cloth so as to ease the pain.

"Through fundraisers from neighbours and friends, the girl has been to Ibaara, Nyamira, Kisii, Tenwek and Kijabe hospitals but the condition has not been treated," Ogeto said.

A medical report signed by Dr Fridah Bosire of Tenwek Mission Hospital recommends that Kwamboka should be examined by an ENT specialist, a plastic surgeon and an oncologist.

To get the tests and treatment, the family was advised to raise Sh1 million with a possibility that the bill could rise.

The Nyamira County First Lady Nyamira Naomi Nyagarama who visited Judy on Saturday said the family lives in extreme poverty and has other members who are unwell, too.

One of the daughters is said to be suffering from elephantiasis.

"I am asking Kenyans of goodwill to assist this girl. I can't make it alone, it needs collective responsibility to get her out of this problem, " said Naomi.

Mrs Nyagarama donated Sh20000, food and an ambulance to take Kwamboka's to Kijabe for further diagnosis before the next course of action is taken.
