A 16-year old girl was on Tuesday swept away by River Gucha in Nyamira on her way home for lunch.

According to authorities, the Nyamonyo SDA primary school pupil identified as Ruth Motari slipped while crossing the river.

The incident was confirmed by Bochi Chache area Chief Robert Isoe who said the student is believed to have been epileptic and speculation has it that she could have suffered an attack.

It several hours to retrieve the body, with residents calling on the government to expand the bridge as a means of averting future disasters.
