Kisumu-based Wells Oil Company has extended donations to Wandiege and Ugunja primary schools as part of their social corporate responsibility. Speaking at Wandiege in Nyamasaria on Friday, the company director, Stephen Okello, said they thought it wise to assist schools within areas where they operate. Okello said they have donated school uniforms to orphan pupils and uniforms for the scout team. He said they are going to give desks and uniforms to pupils at Ugunja primary school in Siaya County. “We sat and agreed that we must uplift the lives of those living within areas we are doing business, they form part of our customers and we must give back to the society,” he said. Okello said they have spent Sh200,000 in the two schools and promised to make it an annual event where they will assist locals within their areas. Wandiege primary school headmistress Kwamboka Onguti applauded the oil company for the philanthropic gesture to the school. She said it is a great joy to the 45 school pupils and parents for the donation advanced to the school pupils. “We are very happy with the donation and I would like to ask other corporate bodies within Nyamasaria to follow the footsteps of Wells Oil Company,” he said. She appealed to the company not to tire up and continue partnering with the school to enable them improve the school’s performance.
