First Lady Margaret Kenyatta Wednesday morning braved a chilly and rainy weather inside Karura forest where she addressed the Young Presidents Organisation (YPO) spouses forum on the need to pursue their dreams with passion.
She encouraged the women to focus all their attention and energies on their respective leadership roles and other endeavours and dreams they may be pursuing.
Giving the example of the Beyond Zero initiative, of which she is the founder patron, the First Lady said she will passionately pursue the cause of women and children even when her current status changes.
She said she has strong feelings about the cause of women and children’s health and will not give up on her beliefs and determination any time soon.
“ I am most passionate about women and children. It is (their cause) something that I will continue to do in the future irrespective of my position,” said the First Lady as quoted by the PSCU.
She spoke on the theme of: “The meaning of being First Lady; chances, choices and challenges.”
The YPO is the world’s Premier network of Chief Executives of Prominent Companies that draws membership from industrialists, manufacturers, Real Estate Investors, Technology, Hospitality, telecommunications and other entrepreneurs .
The Young Presidents Organization spouses forum brings together the wives of the YPO members where they share their experiences on their chances, choices, challenges and changes their make and take as leaders in their own right.
Although the YPO is a global community with presence in 132 countries , today’s event brought together the spouses of the organization’s ,Kenya chapter.
The Kenyan chapter brings together 97 members that include some of the most powerful and prominent businessmen and industrialists . After attaining age 50 while serving as a member of ther YPO, the leaders graduate into the Wise Presidents Organization (WPO)
YPO’s core values include the provision of education and networking opportunities that promote the exchange of ideas and experiences.
The First Lady said her next passion is to build the proposed state of the art Sh 2.2 billion national referral hospital for mothers and children.
“I will also continue to add my voice to conversations on issues about the environment, wildlife, and special education”, she said.
During the interactive conversations, the YPO spouses presented the First Lady with a sample of the new breastlight health product that is able to monitor any strange growth under the breast by shining a special bright light on the mammary tissue.
Breastlight is not a substitute for the routine breast screening but helps women with their normal breast awareness routine at home.
The First Lady also led the YPO spouses in planting trees in the forest in an exercise described as “birthing and giving life to nature” by Karura Forest Environmental Education Trust chairman Prof Karanja Njoroge.
The First Lady planted the famous muthinga tree .
