ODM leader party Raila Odinga has been challenged to push for a parliamentary system of government if he wants to lead the country.
Raila championed for the 2010 constitution which retained a presidential system of government that the country has been practicing since independence.
And now seasoned politician Nyarangi Moturi who is eyeing the Nyamira Senatorial seat said it would be difficult for Raila to overcome the fierce challenge from two major communities (Kalenjin and Kikuyu) but insisted that the jinx could be broken through a parliamentary system.
“I have no doubt that OD party has been the largest single party in the country for a decade now. If we were in the parliamentary system, Odinga would have been the Head of Government for two terms now,” said Moturi during an interview with this writer on Tuesday.
He added: “it’s time for him to push for a parliamentary system of government and let the largest party take over. It’s a nice system because the most popular party will take over the government. He can try to push for a constitutional amendment.”
Moturi’s remarks are likely to trigger another endless debate given that the former prime minister had before tried to push for a parliamentary system after he lost in the 2013 polls.
