People with disability (PWD’s) have urged both the national and county governments to empower them financially to improve their livelihoods.

The National Council of People Living with Disabilities (NCPD) Uasin Gishu Coordinator Titus Yego this will help them earn a living and be independent instead of begging in the streets.

“Gone are the days when people with disability were given handouts and deemed as beggars we want to be empowered so that we can do our own business since disability is not inability. If given a chance and funds we can do better than our normal counterparts,” he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.

“It sad that despite the county and national government setting aside money for the disable it doe does not benefit us but some few self-centered officials. We need our own people to represent us so that the funds may reach us,” he added.

He, however, urged parents with children living with disability to take them to school to help them unleash their talents and abilities instead of hiding them.

“Most children with disability have talents that deserve to be nurtured to help them in future earn a living since most people are earning a lot of money through their talents,” noted Yego.

He warned parents still hiding people with the disability that they will be arrested and charged since they are denying their children right to education.
