Association of pyrethrum farmers has called upon the government through legislation to ensure that their activities are not in vain and that they do not incur losses.
Speaking to the media on Sunday at a meeting in Nyamira hotel, the farmers said pyrethrum farming if taken into consideration can boost the economy of this nation.
"Pyrethrum farming should be taken into consideration to ensure a boost in the economy as well as improve our living standards," said George Anyona, one of the farmers.
The farmers' representatives were drawn from various pyrethrum zones including Ekonge, Nyamusi, Omogonchoro, Manga and Nyamira speaking in one voice for government's intervention in the sector.
According to the farmers, pyrethrum products if exported can earn Kenya up to Sh6 billion as well as Sh8 billion to local farmers.
It's due to these reasons they appealed to the government to take pyrethrum farming seriously and boost farmers in the sector.
