Pyrethrum farmers have been urged to reserve some space for planting pyrethrum ahead of the expected April rains.
HighChem Agriculture managing director, Dr Wachira Maina, said the company will supply farmers with seeds.
He noted that with liberalization of the pyrethrum sector the future of pyrethrum is brighter compared to previous years when farmers uprooted the crop.
“HighChem will be supplying pyrethrum farmers with seeds,” said Maina.
Speaking Today (Tuesday) in Nakuru town Maina called on farmers to prepare their farms in readiness for planting on the onset of rains.
He said that unlike maize which was affected by the maize Lethal necrosis disease last year, pyrethrum crop is less prone to diseases.
He said that with good management, one acre of pyrethrum produces 70 kilogrammes of dry flowers.
This comes after the company has promised to increase the payment to pyrethrum farmers.
