The pyrethrum farmers caucus is now calling on President Uhuru Kenyatta to step in and address problems facing the sector.
Addressing media in Nakuru, the farmers from 18 pyrethrum growing counties lamented that they have not been paid for six months.
Raphael Mwangi – a representative from Nyandarua County - said that despite the government factoring in Sh200 million in the 2016-2017 budget to revive the sector, impact of the cash has not been felt by farmers.
“Most of the assets belonging to the former pyrethrum board of Kenya - PBK - are at the verge of being auctioned to pay debts owed to workers and suppliers,” he said.
Sentiments echoed by Simon Olekoror, representing farmers from Narok county.
Olekoror said the president needs to address farmers problems in the pyrethrum sector just as he has done in the coffee, tea, sugarcane and miraa sector.
