A 75-year-old granny who late last year was saved by fellow residents from a python attack at Kwa Murogi Village near Free Area Estate wants compensation from the government.
The granny whose house is located adjacent to the Lake Nakuru National Park has demanded that the State should compensate her for the trauma she suffered apart from physical injuries.
Leah Wanjiru, a widow who has lived at the squatters Estate since independence was tending to crops outside her home in November last year when she was attacked by a ten fit python that had strained from the Park.
It took a God sent courage from a couple of her neighbours and good Samaritans to fight off the snake that was wrestling down the granny to rescue her from death.
Talking to this writer at her home in the Village the granny said that she suffered broken ribs, leg and head injuries from the incident and has since suffered from a trauma that has reduced her to begging since she cannot venture out to her farm to till and grow crops as she used to do before.
“I want compensation for all that I am undergoing. Life has never been the same for me since the day I was attacked by the snake. Every time I try to go to my farm I start visualising the python and feel like fainting. I am now depending on my relatives and other Villagers for food,’’ lamented the granny.
Her first born son Ezekiel Mwaura, a businessman based at Free Area Estate said his mother deserves to be compensated.
He said that after the incident Kenya Wild life officials who visited the scene had promised to forward her name to their Management for compensation considerations but there has been not yet any reply from the KWS offices.
“The family will now step in and pursue for her compensation because she deserves it. She has never been the same since that time and we are even planning to relocate her because this place is no longer safe for her,’’ said Mwaura.
