The current boom in the construction industry in Nakuru has given quantity surveyors good business as residents embrace the surveyors’ services, county quantity surveyors have said.
The chairman of quantity surveyors (QS) in Nakuru, Moses Kimani, says that Nakuru residents have embraced their services unlike in the past when people just used to construct buildings without consulting them.
“Wananchi have become more informed and they have realised the importance of consulting quantity surveyors before they even start constructing their buildings,” the quantity surveyors said.
“The role of quantity surveyors is to manage the costs relating to building projects which may include new buildings, renovations or maintenance work.”
Kimani added that they also deal with early design costs to final figures as they seek to ensure that the project meets all legal and quality assurance requirements.
‘’When you start a project without the contribution of a QS, you are likely to run into various dangers including being stuck, delay or even a building collapsing due to use of poor quality materials,’’ said Kimani.
“It is pointless starting a project not sure how much it will cost and then leave it half-way. A surveyor will get you the exact amount you need before embarking on a project.”
He added that the longer a project takes, the more expensive it becomes as costs keep increasing.
