Residents of Thika East, Kiambu County have decried increased quarrying activities which have destroyed land belonging to Salvation Army Church.
The residents accuse National Environmental Managemet Authority (NEMA) for failing to take action on a miner who has defied the law leading to degradation on land.
Led by their spokesman Joseph Kariuki, the residents said they will hold peaceful demonstrations if the miner will not adhere to the required environmental regulations.
“The environment is being destroyed as mine are busy mining building materials despite a notice that was issued by NEMA stopping the miners from carrying on with mining activities in the area,” Kariuki said.
He said NEMA should revoke the license issued to the miner.
“A borehole belonging to the church dried up because the quarrying activities interfered with water table,” he added.
The residents were speaking outside Salvation Army Church on Sunday after a church service.
