A family of former Internal Security Minister Julius Sunkuli has demanded answers to the mysterious death of their son Augustine Salaton.
Augustine Sunkuli, 29, was reportedly taken to Kisii teaching and referral Hospital morgue on May 8 after his body was collected in a lorry parking lot in Kilgoris, Nation reports.
Julius Sunkuliand his brother Charles Sunkuli –Environment principal Secretary- have cast doubt on police claims that Salaton died in a road accident. Julius Sunkuli told the paper that his son left their Poroko home for Nairobi on May 7, later to be found missing.
On Saturday May 19, the family found their son’s body at the Kisii TRH mortuary after he received information that a body had been collected by police from a parking lot a fortnight ago and was marked an unknown person at the regional facility.
Police said late Salaton’s body had injuries on the head and abdomen.
“There were skid marks of a lorry at the scene. This indicates that the victim may have been knocked bt the vehicle,” Trans Mara West OCPD David Wambua said.
He added that the body was moved to Kisii hospital due to the absence of freezers at Kilgoris mortuary.
Mr Sunkuli, however, suspects that his son, who at the time of his death was working as a Chinese interpreter was murdered. He noted that his son’s body “appeared to have been burnt with acid”.
“He seems to have struggled a lot in his death, which is evident in the injuries on his head and fingers,” the former minister said.
A postmortem will be done today or tomorrow to establish the cause of Salaton’s death.
