A section of Kisumu residents have asked the national, and various county governments to come forward and tell the public the amount of money the devolution conference consumed.
They noted that in most instances, figures are always exaggerated by leaders in a bid to benefit their own interests.
“It is very worrying when the government fails to explain the amount of money splashed in the conference meeting. It leaves a lot to speculation. We have been fooled before and we don’t want to be fooled again,” said Tilly Anyang’o.
Others noted that the money may ring in tune of millions, which could have been used for other activities.
“You can tell from the fleet of vehicles the ‘royals’ were driving in. Fueling those guzzlers alone is headache, leave alone feeding the washimiwas,” noted Jeremy Banial.
They residents claimed that in most cases the figures do not match up or are exaggerated.
“You will find the devolution conference did cost to a tune of a billion. You wonder how that comes to be. This is because this people have a way of ‘awarding’ themselves in terms of numerous allowances for the jobs they are obligated to do,” Vincent Omosh opined.
Another resident noted that it was the rights of all Kenyans to know how government was spending taxpayer's money.
“We demand to know the amount of money the leaders used and gauge if it makes sense or not, since we are the people financing their stay in Kakamega,” said Jones Awiti.
