The race for the Migori County Assembly speaker position is continuing to hot up.The only two contestants have been trading accusations over their membership in ODM, ahead of the speaker elections.Migori-based lawyer David Kerario Marwa who is eying the post said he has been an ODM party member since 2009.Kerario was responding to the incumbent speaker, also North Kadem MCA Boaz Okoth, who termed him as a Jubilee mole.Okoth had said members of the assembly should not elect Kerario because he allegedly has links with Jubilee.Kerario, however, said he is ready to defend his ODM membership by producing documents ascertaining his party membership dated 2009.He further noted that Okoth has not yet resigned as an MCA, a situation he says prevents him from taking part in the speaker’s race.Kerario said he is ready to offer the assembly the proper leadership and strategies it has been lacking.Last week, the Migori High Court ordered a re-election within 14 days, where Okoth and Kerario will be the only contestants. Justice Hillary Chemitei ordered the election of the speaker to take place under the supervision of the registrar of the Migori High Court and the county assembly leadership. The elections that were supposed to be held on Thursday have been postponed until a petition filed by Kerario is heard and determined.Kerario has challenged the eligibility of Okoth to contest in the speaker's race while still being the MCA for North Kadem ward.
