Kuria won the Jubilee primaries and is therefore President Uhuru Kenyatta's favourite in the race.

Macharia, however, has refused calls by Jubilee party bosses to step down in favour of the party's candidate. He termed the primaries as a sham and decided to run as an Independent.

Another aspirant is Kanu's Maryann Njambi who has promised to give Kuria and Macharia a run for their money.

Observers have however said the race is shaping up as a two-horse race between Macharia and Kuria, popularly known as KK.

The youthful Kuria comes to the battle with an advantage of being in President Kenyatta's party while Macharia enjoys the advantage of an incumbent.

KK is largely expected to bank on Jubilee party's machinery to traverse the constituency. His competitor is banking on his grassroots network he has established over his tenure to pull a win.

President Uhuru Kenyatta while on a trip in the area campaigned for KK.
