Barely 8 months after August elections, several politicians are positioning themselves to succeed governors who are serving their last term in office.
In a region predominantly attributed as Raila's Odinga's base, most MPs or those who previously served have come out to declare their interest.
At Nyamira, Governor John Nyagarama, who is serving his last term under ODM, was condemned for reportedly backing Borabu MP Ben Momanyi to succeed him.
Incidentally, Momanyi has been attending high profile gatherings with Nyagarama, even though he has persistently denied that he has the blessing of Nyagarama.
The Wiper MP is likely to get stiff opposition from ex-Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, who is also warming for the seat. Others include Mwancha Okioma, Erneo Nyakiba and Charles Geni.
Just like Nyamira, the neighbouring Kisii County is witnessing similar political campaigns as the race to succeed Governor Ongwae also takes shape.
Among top contenders include deputy governor Joash Maang'i, Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka and former South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya.
Sources indicate that Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, who was recently installed as the spokesperson of Abagusii, is also interested in the race.
