Mrs Ruto congratulated the children who she said have continued to work hard in school to lead a better life in future despite the challenge.

She  also lauded Ahadi Kenya Trust for playing a big part in the fight against jiggers in the country through the treatment and provision of shoes to those affected.

“Ahadi Kenya has been actively involved in helping children deal with this issue of jigger infestation, and it is doing a good job,” she added.

Mrs Ruto spoke Friday at Butere Primary School in Kakamega County where she participated in a free jigger clinic organised by Ahadi Kenya Trust and Lotto, a betting company.

Ahadi Kenya CEO Stanley Kamau said his organisation has so far distributed six million free shoes and next year, the shoes will rise to 10 million.

He said from next year, the trust will be distributing shoes to both parents and vulnerable children to avoid sharing adding that the project is set to cover affected children in different counties.

They also donated two ambulance mashinani to be used by residents.

The jiggers menace is not new to Nakuru County and in 2014, the county government in conjunction with the KMTC, launched a campaign to eradicate jiggers in the region.
