Deputy President William Ruto’s wife Rachel Ruto has asked women in Machakos to come out and apply for development funds.
Addressing women groups at Kivaa church during a leadership sensitisation event on Tuesday, Ruto said that women have been given an opportunity to prosper their lives.
He asked them to form groups and apply for Uwezo and other development funds adding that it’s through such initiatives that women’s welfare will be taken care of.
She said that the government is committed to ensure the welfare of women is taken care of noting that it’s their responsibility to seek for the funds.
“My appeal is to Machakos women and those across the country to come out and apply for development money,” she said.
Mrs Ruto said that women are a key pillar in the society adding that their empowerment will play a key role in economic development as she urged women to be ambassadors of change in society and help shape the behaviours of young people.
She noted that the society depends on women and that they should use their various roles to nurture and mentor the youths.
“We women we have a role to play in shaping the society which we should use wisely,” she added.
The DP’s wife asked the Machakos county government to initiate projects that will promote the welfare of women and ensure their views are considered in decision making.
