Kenya Premier League chair Ambrose Rachier has called on the government to lift the 50% tax on betting firms during the recent budget reading by CS Henry Rotich.
According to Rachier, the government should not kill the industry because it was a great source sponsorship for sports.
In the 2017/18 budget the government slapped a 50% tax on betting companies, an increase from the initial 9% the previous years.
"I am pleading with the government not to kill betting industry and am surprised after we were called to give opinions when an MP wanted to table a bill on betting, the government has not honoured that," said Rachier.
According to the government, proceeds from taxation will be used in the sports funds.
