Muslim youth leader Hassan Haji has attributed the great reduction from radicalization to increased efforts from the government efforts in the disarmament process.

He added that the extension of the disarmament's period by Internal Security Minister Joseph Nkaiserry indicated that the government was ready to deal with the issue of AL Shabaab and mungiki wholesomely.

Hajji was speaking to the youth after the Eid Mubarak prayers at Afraha Stadium where he said that efforts to radicalize the youth have been met with stiff disregard.

“Many of the youths have shunned the vigilante groups and as a result we have seen a drastic drop in the cases of alshabaab attacks in Mombasa and Nairobi. Apart from the few cases of buses being attacked in Mandera Kenya has enjoyed an insurmountable amount of peace,” said Hajji.

He added that there has also been a lot of awareness campaigns especially among the youth in schools and mosques.

“We have been reaching out to the youth with the aim of ensuring that they are not lured into this groups with cash or even promises of well paying jobs. It has also been important to explain to them the value of life and they have embraced our ideologies openly,” he added.

Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, who graced the occasion, pledged to work with Muslims in the country.

“They are important for the development of our county and we heavily rely on them to ensure that the everything is run smoothly and are a major boost to us economically,” he added
