A 34-year-old radio presenter with a local FM station was on Tuesday arraigned before a Garissa Court to answer to charges of defiling a 17-year-old girl.
Mr Muhiyadin Mohammed is being accused of defiling a form one student on October 26, 2017 in Bula Iftin, Garissa County.
According to the prosecution, the accused used his position as journalist to persuade the girl into visiting his house after which he sexually assaulted her.
The court heard that the minor was found pregnant when she reported for form one at Thika Garrison Secondary School.
The journalist denied the charges and filed an application to be released on bail pending the next hearing.
Garissa Chief Magistrate Cosmas Maundu granted the application and ordered that he be released on a Sh200,000 bond with the same surety or cash bail of a similar amount.
The case will be mentioned on February 19.
